Connecting to Library Resources

Tips and tricks for connecting to the library's online journals and databases from anywhere in the world.

EZproxy bookmarklet

The EZproxy bookmarklet below adds the library's proxy prefix to the URL of the current page. This can help you get access to the library's subscription when you follow a link from e-mail, social media, or a search engine, rather than starting on the library's home page.

Note that this won't give you access to anything you couldn't have gotten to by starting at our homepage. It just saves back-tracking if you ended up on the page some other way.

To install the bookmarklet, either:

  • Drag the Access via UVM Libraries link below to your browser's toolbar; OR
  • Right-click on the Access via UVM Libraries link below and select "Bookmark link...". When prompted, choose to save it to your Bookmark Toolbar.

Access via UVM Libraries

To use the bookmarklet when you're on a page that won't give you the full text because it doesn't recognize you as a subscriber (for example, https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMicm2310606):

  1. Click on your Access via UVM Libraries bookmark.
  2. If prompted, log in with your UVM netid and password.
  3. The URL should now show .ezproxy.uvm.edu in the middle of the URL (e.g., https://www-nejm-org.ezproxy.uvm.edu/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMicm2310606) and give you access.

Troubleshooting:

  • The process for creating bookmarks is a little different on each browser, especially on mobile devices. If it's not obvious for your browser, try some of the suggestions at https://guides.library.upenn.edu/usingeresources/proxybookmarklet -- just be sure to use our link not theirs!
  • If you are a UVMMC person who doesn't have a UVM netid, you will need to log in through the UVMHN Remote Access Gateway and use the browser there in order to use EZproxy, including this bookmarklet.
  • If you use this bookmarklet while you're on the UVM network (or the VPN), it won't look like it's doing anything. You don't need EZproxy on campus, so it'll just redirect you back to the original page. Try it again when you're somewhere else.
  • Don't click the big Access via UVM Libraries link above. It'll probably just open a new tab or do something else useless. It only works as a bookmark.
  • If you need to type the link, it's (you need the whole thing):
    javascript:void((function(){location.href='https://login.ezproxy.uvm.edu/login?qurl='+encodeURIComponent(location.href);})());
  • If you get a message like "Oops! It looks like you have attempted to view a page that has not been configured for access.", the page you just attempted to proxy isn't something we subscribe to, so our proxy doesn't know how to handle it. If you think it should have worked, try going back to our home page and accessing the journal from there. We might have it through a different provider.
