POLS/ GRS 95: Introduction to Mexico (TAP) - Beer (Fall 2016): Citing Your Sources

Why Citations Matter

There are many reasons why it is important to cite the resources that you consult when researching a paper. The most important of these are:

  • Gives credit to authors whose works you have used (whether you quote them or not).
  • Provides a trail by which others can locate the materials you consulted.
  • Provides evidence of your research.
  • Properly citing materials is one strategy to help you avoid plagiarizing.

Citing your Sources (Using Chicago Manual of Style)

For the work in this class, you are required to cite your sources using the Chicago Manual of Style.  Please note that when you cite your sources, both in-text and in your bibliographies, details DO matter.  Be careful to follow correct Chicago Manual of Style format.
