POLS/ GRS 95: Introduction to Mexico (TAP) - Beer (Fall 2016): Finding Articles

Finding Articles for this class and others ...

Many professors will require that you focus on the scholarly journal literature as you conduct your research. Depending on the assignment, other professors may not have this requirement. However, it is important to be able to discern the scholarly, peer-reviewed journal literature from other types of periodical literature.

What is a Scholarly Journal?: Distinguishing between Scholarly and Non-Scholarly Periodicals

Tutorial: Distinguishing Between Sources of Information (Articles)

For this class, you are asked to use the database called Academic Search Premier to locate scholarly articles on your topic.   This is a general, interdisciplinary database that gives you access to both scholarly journal articles and non-scholarly journal articles across disciplines, and an excellent resource to start with.

Tutorial: Academic Search Premier Overview

Note: Academic Search Premier is an excellent database to use to as a starting point for your research because it is broad and interdisciplinary.  The library subscribes to hundreds of databases that provide access to the scholarly literature.

Article databases by subject

While some databases are broad and multidisciplinary, other databases focus more in-depth on the literature in specific subject areas.  These can also be very useful.

Follow this path from the library home page to look at the article databases we provide access to by subject:

Find --> Articles and More --> on the right side of the page click on: Browse by subject
