City Data

Data on demographics, income, poverty, and education are all extremely important to this project. Often, visualizing data within the geographic space of your city can uncover stark contrasts or compelling similarities. Listed below are some tools for visualizing data as well as putting data into helpful tables.

PolicyMap This link opens in a new window
This tool visualizes data on demographics, employment and socioeconomic indicators, housing, crime, health, and more. Users can access data in interactive maps, tables, charts, and reports.
Social Explorer This link opens in a new window
This resource can be used to explore both historical and contemporary U.S. Census data in report form or visually on a map, allowing for comparison of information from different censuses or geographic areas.

Data.census.gov
For recent census data, the government portal is the most up-to-date. You can build tables and map data, and the search box works well if you are specific. Ie: poverty chittenden county vermont
Opportunity Atlas
The Opportunity Atlas offers statistical looks into geographic regions that either foster or impede economic mobility.
National Center for Education Statistics
This subdivision of the Department of Education serves as a clearinghouse house for data at the level of states, districts, and even specific schools. In addition to data and reports, you'll find links to other data tools and "fast facts" on certain topics.

Find information about a higher education institution.
