Court Cases or Legal Documents

You may find that, in your city, the history of race and education found its way into the court system. There are a number of resources at your disposal to get overviews and primary documents from the cases, rulings, and opinions that influenced your city's educational history.

Westlaw This link opens in a new window
Westlaw is a great place to search for specific court cases. It collects all of the rulings on a case as it makes its way through the courts and puts them together in your results. You may need to take a moment to figure out the timeline of a case as it goes through appeals and the higher courts.
Nexis Uni This link opens in a new window
Nexis Uni provides legal materials if you select "cases" from the left-side "What are you interested in?" menu. Nexis can also be a good place to search for newspaper articles as well.

Oyez Project
If your case made it to the Supreme Court, you can likely find it in Oyez. The resource provides overviews, court documents, and audio from the arguments and opinions (the justices even light up when they speak).
