Vermont Architectural Collections

A guide to architectural collections available in the Silver Special Collections Library.

Overview

Silver Special Collections Library at the University of Vermont holds a significant number of architectural collections. The holdings represent records for individual buildings and institutions, as well as the work of architects and architectural firms. Two collections cover late 18th - early 19th century structures Congdon, Johnson) and a number document late 19th century work. The bulk of the collections cover 20th century projects. Most of the buildings were constructed in Vermont, and especially in northwestern Vermont, but the projects in New England, northern New York and elsewhere are also represented.

This guide, which lists collections alphabetically, briefly describes the content of each collection and provides information about finding aids (collection inventories). Most importantly, the guide indicates where the records are stored and provides notes on how researchers can gain access to the collections. Because most of the collections are stored offsite, researchers may need to contact Special Collections public services staff several days in advance, by emailing uvmsc@uvm.edu or calling 656-2138.
