BME 2600 / 3600 / 4600: BME Design - Fox (Fall 2023)

Standards and Prior Art

This guide provides information and resources to support your research into:

(a) Standards: A standard is "a formula that describes the best way of doing something. It could be about making a product, managing a process, delivering a service or supplying materials – standards cover a huge range of activities." (ISO)

(b) Prior art: "Prior art is any evidence that your invention is already known. Prior art does not need to exist physically or be commercially available. It is enough that someone, somewhere, sometime previously has described or shown or made something that contains a use of technology that is very similar to your invention." (European Patent Office)
