Where to Locate Books

Library Catalogs are most often used to locate books, full periodicals, film, amd collections of microfilm. These formats of materials can be in a wide range of genres that are both primary and secondary in nature.

The Center for Research Libraries (CRL) has an extensive collection of hard to locate books, newspapers, government documents, and microfilm collections that UVM users can borrow free of charge through our Inter Library Loan Department.

Useful Terms

Library Catalogs (such as the UVM Library Catalog or WorldCat) use predefined terms to describe primary sources. Among the most commonly used terms are:

  • Correspondence
  • Diaries
  • Documents
  • Interviews
  • Letters
  • Personal Narratives
  • Sources
