Introduction to the Dana Health Sciences Library

Welcome!

Orientation Video

This video contains a quick overview of library services that we think may be especially helpful for new faculty preceptors. It shows how to access library materials (books, journal articles, databases and point of care resources) and obtain research assistance from both on and off campus.

Evidence Based Medicine

The Dana Health Sciences Library supports evidence based learning and practice.  Our librarians can help you develop a clinical question and formulate a search strategy that will identify high quality research.

See our Evidence Based Medicine research guide for an outline of the five steps of EBM.

You can also use the EBM Decision Tree to quickly identify and access our most popular clinical databases, websites, and textbooks.

Maintaining Access to UpToDate Anywhere

In order to continue using UpToDate Anywhere through the mobile app, without the proxy server, or to earn CME credit, all users need to sign into it from the UVM or University of Vermont Medical Center network, proxy, or gateway at least once every 90 days to verify that they are still authorized users. If you have been off campus for more than 90 days (for example, if you have been on a clerkship, or are preceptor faculty), you will need to sign in through EZProxy or the University of Vermont Medical Center gateway in order to reactivate your UpToDate account. You do not have to be on campus to do this, and can use any web browser (including on a phone or tablet). You cannot reactivate your account through the UpToDate mobile app if the 90 days have expired.

UVM Affiliates

Visit the Dana Library web site at https://dana.uvm.edu and click on UpToDate, sign in to EZproxy with your UVM netID and password (if prompted), and make sure that your name appears at the top of the UpToDate screen. If your name does not appear, click on the Log In button at the upper right and log in with the username and password you set up when you registered with UpToDate. You should now be all set for another 90 days. If you run into any problems, please contact us for help.
