There are several major citation styles. Which one you should use depends upon the subject area of the class and the preferences of your professor.
If you are not sure which citation style to use in a particular class, ask your professor.
As of 2015, the American Anthropological Association has adopted the use of Chicago Style for their official publications. When writing in the field of Anthropology, this is the recommended citation style.
