NR 3010: Research Methods - Fisher & Kutner (Fall 2023)

Why use EndNote?

The UVM Libraries supports the use of 3 citation management software systems, EndNote, Zotero, and Mendeley.  The one you choose to use is a personal choice; in this class we will focus on the system called EndNote.

  • EndNote is downloadable from the UVM software website (https://www.uvm.edu/software ) (AppsAnywhere).  The current version is EndNote 21.
  • EndNote creates a searchable database of your references that you can organize.
  • EndNote works with Word so that you can insert your citations into your Word document and they will be formatted in whatever citation style you choose.
  • EndNote works with library databases so that you can import the bibliographic information directly from a database into EndNote.
  • EndNote will search for and attach PDFs of articles into your references, and includes a PDF reader.
  • EndNote allows you to share your reference lists with others if you are working on a group project.
  • If you are writing a major paper or thesis involving collecting and managing a number of citations, using EndNote or another citation management system is highly recommended.
  • There is a learning curve involved in using a program like EndNote; attending a workshop to learn whatever program you choose to use will get you on your way.
