ASCI 001: Introductory Animal Sciences - Kerr/Kinghorn (Fall 2017): Greyhound Racing

Topic #6 Greyhound Racing

Topic background: The public debate over the pros and cons of greyhound racing has been going on for decades. While the Greyhound Racing Association claims that the racing industry provides jobs and helps sustain a healthy greyhound gene pool, animal rights groups claim that racing is outright animal abuse. No matter where you stand on this issue, both sides are making good points.

  • Pro: Greyhound racing is not a form of animal abuse and tracks across the United States should not be closed.
  • Con: Greyhound racing is a form of animal abuse and should be outlawed in the United States.
